Woo-Hoo!

happy feet
Just heard from the Genographic Project - my DNA sample has been received and is going into the system to be processed, yay! This is a program that takes samples of DNA to determine one's ethnic history, going into the deep past. It will take 6 or 8 weeks before my results are available, but I'm just relieved to know that it was received, given that I mailed the thing back at the beginning of the month. As far as I know, I'm half English and half Celtic, but within a couple of months I'll know for sure....

We 'English' are a mixture of Celtic, Saxon, Viking, Gallic and others, and varies on the part of the country. I would guess from my physical type and being of Yorkshire stock, that I'm mainly Anglo-Saxon (German). Exciting to find out!

My father's sister did some searching and traced that side of my family back to the 1730s (an ancestor at that time was, not surprisingly, a smuggler - we are talking Cornish ancestry here!), but that's as much info as we have, really. This genographic project should give me lots more info. As it happens, I just got notification that they'd finished extracting the DNA from my sample, meaning the process is now 20% complete {g}!
